Supertramp guitarist reaches for the ‘Sky’ at Scherr solo show

Supertramp guitarist Carl Verheyen, hailed as one of the Top 10 guitar players in the world by Guitar Magazine, is on the road celebrating the release of his latest Carl Verheyen Band album, “Riverboat Sky.”

He and the group will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 21 at the Scherr Forum Theatre, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks.

“We wanted to do something BIG to announce its release,” he writes on his website. “The Scherr Forum is a 400-seat theater with awesome acoustics and a stage that will handle some very special guests that will join us.”

Verheyen’s band includes longtime collaborator and bassist Dave Marotta (Phil Collins, Neil Diamond), drummer John Mader (John Fogerty) as well as keyboardist and guitarist Troy Dexter (Wilson Phillips). He and the group perform a mix of rock, blues, jazz and country.

Verheyen is recognized as “One of the World’s Top 10 Guitarists” by Guitar Magazine and “One of the Top 100 Guitarists of All Time” by Classic Rock Magazine.

Verheyen—a Grammy-nominated musician, vocalist, songwriter, arranger, producer and educator with 16 CDs and two live DVDs released worldwide—has been the lead guitarist of British rock group Supertramp since 1985 and is one of L.A.’s top session players, adding his distinctive licks to TV shows (“Seinfeld,” “Frasier,” “Cheers,” “Happy Days,” “L.A. Law”) and hundreds of movies (“Cars,” “Star Trek,” “The Usual Suspects,” “Ratatouille”).

Tickets for his show, $44 and $54, are available at ticketmaster.com or in-person through the Bank of America Performing Arts Box Office.
