Sharks, Jets square off in ARTS’ ‘West Side Story’


Actors’ Repertory Theatre of Simi will open its production of “West Side Story” at 8 p.m. Sat., March 3 at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Ave.

The musical runs weekends through April 8. Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

“West Side Story” is a theater classic, with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. It tells the story of young lovers who are caught up in a turf war between rival street gangs the Sharks and the Jets.

After “ West Side Story” made its Broadway debut in 1957, it was nominated for six Tony Awards including best musical. It features such songs as “Maria,” “Tonight,” “Cool” and “Something’s Coming.”

This production is suitable for ages 10 and up.
