Free hometown comic con

Santa Susana High School will host the inaugural Santa Susana Comic Con at 5 p.m. Fri., March 16 at 3570 Cochran St., Simi Valley.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is modeled after the popular comic book conventions held around the country featuring a panel of video game, television and entertainment industry professionals.

Santa Susana High senior Thomas DeGagne, who is coordinating the event, came up with the idea of having a comic con as a way of showcasing the widespread popularity of all things comic-related.

“In addition, our students will learn about the industry and what they need to do in order to break in,” Thomas said.

Confirmed panelists are:

Lucky Yates, the voice of Dr. Krieger on the FX network animated series “Archer,”

Catherine Sutherland, Australian born actress who played the Pink Ranger on “Mighty Mophin Power Rangers,”

Bill Warnecke, lead software engineer at Blizzard Entertainment, responsible for overseeing the release of the multiplayer game Overwatch,

Chris Burkhart, principal technical lead on the data team at Blizzard Entertainment,

Randy Coppinger, dialog manager at Disney Digital Publishing, and

Joy Ealy, nine-time Emmy nominee for sound editing with credits including USA Network’s “Spartacus,” NBC’s “Hercules” and TNT’s “The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines.”

In addition to the panel discussion, the comic con will have a cosplay contest and a display of student projects.
