Forums host city candidates

Candidates for Simi Valley mayor and City Council will have the opportunity to present their views on the issues at two upcoming candidate forums.

The League of Women Voters of Ventura County, a nonpartisan political organization, will present a candidate forum for the municipal election.

The forum is free and open to the public. It will be from 6:46 to 9 p.m. Wed., Sept. 26 at the Simi Valley council chambers, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.

All five mayoral contenders and nine City Council candidates were invited to attend.

They will discuss their positions and respond to audience questions asked by the moderator, David Maron of the League of Women Voters.

The league hosts forums in order to help the public learn more about elections, voting processes and individuals running for office, organizers said, adding that the league doesn’t endorse candidates and conducts its forums in a manner designed to be fair and equitable to all who participate.

On Tues., Oct. 2, the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce will host a candidate forum at the Grand Vista Hotel, 999 Enchanted Way.

All candidates for Simi Valley City Council, Simi Valley mayor, the 38th Assembly District and 25th Congressional District have been invited to the event, organizers said.

The candidates will be available for a meet-and-greet and to answer questions from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m.

A formal program will begin at 8:15 a.m., and candidates for City Council, mayor and Assembly will answer pre-selected questions. The program will end at 9:45 a.m.

The cost, which includes breakfast, is $20 with a reservation or $25 at the door.
