Simi Valley police took into custody a 15-year-old boy, who they say possessed a loaded weapon and extra ammunition.
The incident occurred just before 9 p.m., Fri. Aug. 18.
In a Nixle statement, SVPD said officers working at the Royal High football game were alerted to several juveniles who appeared to be involved in nefarious activities on campus. Officers contacted the group and, during their detention, they located a 15-year-old resident of Simi Valley with a loaded 9mm handgun and a 15 round magazine in his waistband, police said.
Additional rounds were found in the boy’s backpack, police said.
The boy was arrested and booked at juvenile hall.
Jake Finch, spokesperson for the Simi Unified School District, told the Acorn Aug. 19 that the 15-year-old who was arrested does not attend one of the district’s schools.
“The kid was reported by other students because he made them nervous,” she said. “This is why we keep teaching our kids that if you see something, say something.”
As a result, police were able to get the juvenile immediately.
“He is not our student and does not attend any of our schools,” Finch emphasized.
The incident occurred right at the end of the football game and it didn’t interfere with the game at all, she said.
“Truly, we’re very grateful to have the police onsite and how quickly they handled this and nobody was hurt, and there was no major incident with this,” Finch said.
As of 10 a.m. Saturday morning, police said they could not provide further details about the incident because it involves a juvenile and the investigation is ongoing.
