Annual air show ready for takeoff

ACORN FILE PHOTO The 37th annual Wings Over Camarillo Air Show, presented by California Aeronautical University, will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Aug. 19 and 20, at the Camarillo Airport.

The hosts are Camarillo Wings Association, an all-volunteer nonprofit corporation, in collaboration with the Commemorative Air Force SoCal Wing, Experimental Aircraft Association chapter 723 and Ventura County Ninety- Nines.

Special veterans’ events and military aircraft are planned along with aerobatic performances from Vicky Benzing, classic warbirds from the CAF and John Collver, and local favorite Judy Phelps.

The event will also have experimental aircraft, antique cars and motorcycles, airplane rides, Kiddy Korner, war veterans’ tent, WWII reenactment camp and VIP Chalet tent as well as a variety of food and street vendors.

Back this year is the expanded Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) Pavilion with drone demonstrations, static displays and hands-on activities for youths, including the CAU mobile flight simulator.

The Camarillo Wings Association will distribute the event’s net profits to participating nonprofit groups that promote youth in science and aviation.

No dogs, smoking, outside alcohol, skateboards, bicycles or golf carts are allowed past the gates.

Advance tickets are $12 for students ages 13 to 18 as well as activity military with ID, and $17 for general admission. At the gate tickets are $15 and $20. Kids age 12 and under get in free. No seating is provided.

VIP Chalet tickets Saturday only are $120 for adults 21 and over and $80 for children 6 to 12 accompanied by a paid VIP adult. VIP tickets include general admission, VIP parking, and beer and wine for adults 21 and over with ID.

VIP Chalet tickets Sunday only are $110 for adults and $80 for children.

Garage parking and seating upgrades are available.
