ARTS presents plays at cultural center

Actors’ Repertory Theatre of Simi will present two plays at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Ave.

Performances of William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” continue at 7:30 p.m. May 23, 24 and 25 in the intimate DownStage Theater in the lower level.

The classic comedy is directed by Will Shupe and features members of the Literature in Action troupe, part of ARTS’ Cultural Enrichment Program.

The play is suitable for ages 8 and up.

Tickets may be purchased in the lower lobby of the theater and are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.

Reservations are recommended by emailing the producer at jgartdept@sbcglobal.net.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will open 8 p.m. Sat., June 3 and run weekends through July 9.

Performances are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Music and lyrics are by William Finn, with book by Rachel Sheinkin and conceived by Rebecca Feldman.

This award-winning musical comedy is about six young people (portrayed by adults)—, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves—who learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.

Opportunities for audience participation on stage are available. Sign-ups on a first-come, first-served basis will be available in the lobby prior to performances.

Due to mature themes, this show is recommended for ages 12 and up; parental discretion is advised.

Tickets are available at www.simi-arts.org or through the box office at (805) 583-7900.
