Marching bands sound off at Royal

Over 20 bands to compete

DARLEEN PRINCIPE/Acorn Newspapers The Royal Highland Brigade, under the direction of Lisa Pate, will host the 33rd annual Royal Classic from noon to 9 p.m. Sat., Oct. 8 at the Royal High School stadium, 1402 Royal Ave., Simi Valley.

Gates open at 11:30 a.m.

The Royal Classic, sponsored by the RHS Band Boosters, is a marching band field show competition featuring over 20 high school marching bands from across Southern California.

During the event, the award winning Royal Highland Brigade will perform “Royal Blood,” its original medieval themed field show composed by Danny Ursetti.

Members of the public can watch the students perform. Simi Valley High School is set to begin at 6:15 p.m., while Royal’s set starts at 6:30 p.m.

Food vendors will serve hot food, snacks and beverages all day.

The competition is the RHS Instrumental Music Department’s largest fundraiser of the year and is made possible by hundreds of volunteer parents, students, community members and sponsors.

Tickets are available at the gate for $10 for general admission and $5 for children, seniors, educators and members of the military.
