Transit direc tor placed on leave

Simi Valley’s deputy director of transit, Chuck Perkins, was placed on paid administrative leave Jan. 28 and will remain on paid leave until further notice.

Assistant City Manager Jim Purtee said “personnel issues” with Perkins were being looked into and he could not comment further on the reason for the leave.

“A lot of personnel things are confidential,” Purtee said. “While we’re doing a review it’s routine for staff to be placed on leave.”

Perkins, 52, has worked for the city for 24 years. His salary range is between $93,000 and $120,000, and while he would not provide the exact figure, Purtee added that Perkins’ salary would be closer to $120,000 based on how long he’s worked for the city.

Perkins started in Simi Valley’s transit division as a supervisor in 1990, then in 1995 was promoted to transit superintendent before becoming deputy director in 2005.

Purtee said current staff within the transit department will assume Perkins’ duties, but additional help could be needed.

“We’re looking at our options and may look for some temporary help,” he said.
