Toastmasters offer speaking course

Simi Risers Toastmasters Club will conduct a Communication Development course for eight weeks starting Tues., April 30 from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at Sunrise Assisted Living, 190 Tierra Rejada Road, Simi Valley.

Participants will learn how to say what they mean in a confident, clear manner.

The $25 cost includes materials and instruction.

Toastmasters is a nonprofit, global organization dedicated to teaching communication and leadership skills.

Loving Heart hosting Derby watch party

Loving Heart Hospice Foundation will host a Kentucky Derby Party at 1 p.m. Sat., May 4 at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch, 2940 Kuehner Drive, Simi Valley

The event will have a live direct feed from Churchill Downs, a buffet with traditional derby cuisine, mint juleps, prizes, 22 gambling tables and a no-host bar.

Theme attire is encouraged. Hats typical of the derby will be available for purchase.

Tickets are $150 each and reservations are required. Minimum age requirement is 18 years.

Public invited to judge art

Members of the public are invited to vote for their favorite work of art at the People’s Choice Award Show hosted by the Simi Valley Art Association on Sat. and Sun., May 4 and 5 at the Simi Town Center Art Gallery.

Each voter receives a free raffle ticket and a chance to win one of the artworks and gift items that will be given away.
