Magician coming to Arts Theater

Master Magician Jersey Jim will pick a child from the audience to levitate in midair on stage during the 90-minute, “Funtastic Family Magic Show” on Sat., May 12 at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Theater, 3050 Los Angeles Ave. Two identical matinees will be presented at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The show will feature comedy, grand illusion and audience participation. Jersey Jim will also saw actor Mickey Jones in half with a buzz saw. Thirteen-year-old Austin Janik of the Simi Valley Magic Club will also perform his own magic

routine during the show. Jersey Jim regularly performs in L.A. and at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. He also appeared in the major motion picture, “Couples Retreat” staring Vince Vaughn. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Every child will receive a free magic trick when they meet the magician and his live rabbit after the shows. Register for children’s choir

The Master Chorale Children’s Choir is taking registra-

tions for the 2012- 2013 session. The Children’s Choir is a firstplace award-winning group of 80 students who sing with the Master Chorale and also present their own concerts. The choir also participates in competitions and festivals and will travel this year to the New York Children’s Choir Festival in New York City. There are three choirs for children 5 to 18 years: a training choir for ages 5 to 7, an auditioned choir for ages 8 to 12, and an auditioned choir for teens and experienced singers. The students rehearse once a week on Mondays from September to May at locations in Ventura or Camarillo. The bel canto training covers singing skills, music theory and rhythm reading. Make a gift for Mom’s Day

The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center will host its annual Spring Craft and Gift Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat., May 5 at the center, 3050 Los Angeles Ave. Children can make a gift for mom for $5. Artisans will display their jewelry, clothing, handcrafts and artwork. Admission is free. Door prizes will be awarded hourly.

People’s Choice art awards

Simi Valley Art Association Inc. will present the annual People’s Choice Award Show,

an event for all SVAA painters, digital artists and photographers, at the Simi Valley Town Center Art Gallery on Sat. and Sun., May 5 and 6. Entries are also welcome from non-gallery SVAA participants. The public can vote free of charge for their favorite artwork.
