Mantooth joins county Community Foundation board

Stan Mantooth, Ventura County superintendent of schools, has been elected to the board of directors of the Ventura County Community Foundation. His three-year term started Jan. 1.

Superintendent since 2008, Mantooth has nearly 35 years of experience in educational management.

“Because VCCF administers nearly 100 scholarship funds and plans to distribute $1.2 million in scholarships this coming year, Stan’s background in education is a tremendous asset for VCCF,” said Pierre Tada, chair of the 15-member board.

Along with overseeing the operations of 20 K-12 school districts and the Ventura County Community College District, he serves on a variety of boards, committees and commissions, including First 5 Ventura County, Workforce Investment Board, Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council, Ventura County Housing Trust Fund and Boy Scouts Ventura County Council.

Mantooth, who has a master’s degree in school business administration, was named assistant superintendent of the Oak Park Unified School District in 1989. Seven years later he became the associate superintendent at the Ventura County Office of Education, and in 2008 he was tapped as superintendent. He was elected to a four-year term by Ventura County voters in 2010.

Mantooth recently received the Leadership Matters Award from the Ventura County chapter of the Association of California School Administrators. The previous year he was honored by the local California Teachers Association as Public Servant of the Year in Ventura County.
