Gospel singer to perform youth concert
Alex Boye, who made a successful leap from rock band artist to gospel singer, will perform a show geared for youths at 7 p.m. Sat., Feb. 18 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1201 Paseo Camarillo, in Camarillo.
Boye will give and will also sing. A choir of local teens ages 12 to 18 will sing with Boye in two of the musical numbers.
Admission is free.
A London native, Boye became lead singer in the European boy band Awesome in the 1990s. After signing a recording contract with Universal Records in 1996, the band had hits in more than 15 countries and sold more than a half-million CDs.
Before Boye decided to make a change in his professional life, he and Awesome performed with such groups as NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, and George Michael.
In 2000, Boye moved to Utah to pursue a career in gospel music and signed with Deseret Book’s Shadow Mountain label.
He won two Pearl Awards from the Faith-Centered Music Association, the Male Artists Listener Award for his CD “Testimony” from LDS Booksellers Association, and the Spirit of Heritage Award for his work with youth.
He also is a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
