Huber should have done the stakeout

It was with disgust that I read the article “Campaign sign stakeout called into question,” Oct. 1, in which it was revealed just how shameless Bob Huber is in taking advantage of his relationship with the Simi Valley Police Officers Association.

If he was so concerned about his signs disappearing, why didn’t he conduct the stakeout himself? How hard is it to sit in a van, video camera at the ready and wait to catch someone in the act of “stealing” a sign?

This man is a lawyer and is campaigning for office. He can obviously afford to hire someone to do it for him if he is disinclined to do his own chores. But no, instead he got the taxpayers to foot the bill for a detective to sit there for seven hours. At night. On a holiday weekend no less.

Now in today’s mail, Oct. 6, I find Bob Huber’s campaign postcard in which he states, “Our police department should be fighting crime instead of fighting City Hall.”

Mr. Huber, our police department should be fighting crime instead of fighting your battles. Do you honestly consider baby-sitting a campaign sign to be “fighting crime”?

I ask the citizens, the voters of Simi Valley, do we really want or need as our mayor someone who pays (or says he pays) $65 for a campaign sign (when a comparable sign can be had for about $20 apiece)? And who then uses the police department to guarddog those signs? Is that someone who should have access to our city’s budget? The city of Bell comes to mind, doesn’t it?
