SVHS coach accused of sex with 13-year-old

Simi Valley Police Department detectives arrested Simi resident Michael Burgmeier, 40, last Friday, booking him on a charge of committing a lewd act on a child under 14 years old.

According to police, a 15-yearold Thousand Oaks girl, accompanied by her parents, reported the crime to authorities on Oct. 6.

The victim told police that in September and October of 2008, when she was 13, she and Burgmeier, her softball coach, had engaged on two separate occasions in consensual sexual activity.

The teen ultimately confided in someone who notified the girl’s parents, police said.

Burgmeier has worked as a part-time girls’ softball coach at Simi Valley High School. He was previously employed with a traveling softball team, the police said.

After his arrest in the 400 block of Los Angeles Avenue on Oct. 8, investigators executed a search warrant at Burgmeier’s home and seized items related to the case.

Burgmeier was booked at East Valley Jail for lewd and lascivious acts with a child.

According to Sheriff’s Capt. Ross Bonfiglio, Burgmeier was released on a $50,000 bail bond. He is due in Ventura County Superior Court Oct. 18.

The police department is asking former and current athletes associated with or coached by Burgmeier to come forward if they were involved in any inappropriate activity with him.
