Program is about jobs, not politics

I am so sick of people like Richard Rogero who run their mouths and haven’t a clue what they’re talking about.

For starters, City Council did investigate E-Verify in January. Released on Jan. 28, 2010, Westat’s evaluation was made public.

Right on page 5, and I quote, “USCIS is very proud of Westat’s” finding that an estimated 96 percent of all E-Verify initial responses were consistent with the person’s work authorization status.

That’s it in a nutshell. City Council should have implemented E-Verify in February. Period.

But no, we had to play politics for seven months now. I mean, this is an election year, Mr. Rogero. Wise up. They’re still playing politics with E-Verify, or did you miss your mayor’s spin on E-Verify a few weeks ago?

What really bothers me most are not Mr. Rogero’s swipes at Bob Huber, it is the fact that I am that someone who has had a meeting with Mayor Miller and Manager Mike Sedell well over a year ago. I have spoken at council meetings.

On April 17, I caught Councilman Becerra at the Junior Olympics and apologized that I was bothering him at the function, but E-Verify is that important to me. He was very kind and tried to help. He even called Tracy Noonan and left a message to call me.

Now, Tracy Noonan never called me back. I called plenty of times and left messages. Finally Tracy answered her own phone and completely stonewalled me with, ‘The city attorney can’t give advice.’

Fine. I wasn’t asking for advice. She was specifically asked what the holdup was with E-Verify. All phone calls I made were answered with, “We’re legally checking into it. Our city attorney is the one you need to speak with.” Do you smell the politics yet, Rich?

After the mayor’s letter, he got a letter from me. I still have yet to receive a reply.

I’ve called the Acorn editor and asked if they proofread these letters for facts after Miller misstated the correct accuracy of facts.

So, yeah, Mr. Rogero, I am and have been causing a stink long before January 2010.

E-Verify isn’t about politics it’s about jobs, jobs, jobs.
