A man was caught trying to burglarize a parked vehicle last Saturday in the area of Rocky Peak Road and State Highway 118, according to a police report.

At about 7:49 a.m., Simi Valley Police Senior Officer Steve Shorts was engaged in a routine patrol of the area when he observed a male— later identified as Christian Ricks, 35, of Simi Valley—“actively engaged” in trying to break into a car, the report said.

Shorts detained Ricks and arrested him without incident on a charge of burglary of a motor vehicle.

SVPD would like to remind citizens to remove any visible property and secure parked vehicles. These two steps can reduce the chances of being a victim of a theft.
