Games for the senior set

The fifth annual age 50+ Simi Valley Community Games are free to all participants.

The opening ceremony is on Sept. 14 and the closing ceremony is Oct. 1.

All participants will receive a free T-shirt and closing ceremony dinner.

Available games include bingo, bunko, poker, bridge, eight-ball, pool, golf, horseshoes, shuffleboard, walking, pickleball, basketball shooting, indoor lawn bowling, ping pong and Wii bowling.

Entry packets are available at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi; Rancho Santa Susana Community Center, 5005-C Los Angeles Ave.; and Sycamore Drive Community Center, 1692 Sycamore Drive.

Girl Scouts host pizza night

The Girl Scouts will host a recruiting night at 7 p.m. today, Sept. 3, at two Lamppost Pizza restaurants, 530 W. Los Angeles Ave. in Moorpark and 3921 Cochran St. in Simi Valley.

The event is to celebrate the premiere of Disney’s “Camp Rock 2: Final Jam.”

The cost is $6 and includes two pieces of pizza and a drink. All ages are welcome.

Play bingo at Simi Valley Days

The Simi Valley Elks will present bingo games from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sun., Sept. 19 during Simi Valley Days in the main tent at Rancho Simi Community Park, 1768 Royal Ave., Simi Valley.

Each player will receive one free dauber with first paid admission pack.

The Elks host regular Wednesday night bingo starting at 4 p.m. at the lodge, 1561 Kuehner Drive.

Center offers fall classes for seniors

Registration has started for the fall age 50 and up recreation and park classes.

Some classes are ongoing, but most will start in September.

Numerous classes are available in the categories of activities, crafts and hobbies, computer, dance, education, fitness and music.

Historical park needs volunteers

The Simi Valley Historical Society is looking for volunteers to serve as docents, work on school programs or take part in special events like Ghost Tour, Friendship Tea and History Day.

Registration is open for training classes scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 14, 16, 21 and 23 at Strathearn Park, 137 Strathearn Place.

Participants must attend all four classes for accreditation.

The classroom education covers the Chumash Indian, Spanish Rancho and American periods of Simi Valley’s history.

Volunteers may participate in various activities, including preservation of artifacts.
