Nixon joins Workforce Investment board
The Workforce Investment Board of Ventura County has announced the addition of four new board members who were recently appointed by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.
Joining the board for twoyear terms are Martel Fraser, labor relations/recorder for United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 770; Jaime Casillas, dean of economic development for Ventura County Community College District; Leigh Nixon, president and CEO of the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce; and Capt. David Sasek, U.S. Navy chief staff officer at Naval Base Ventura County.
Fraser is an advocate for improving the lives and opportunities afforded to youth and low-income workers through education, training and personal skill building.
Casillas offers a connection between the community colleges, employers and students seeking relevant educational experiences that will lead to jobs.
Nixon looks forward to assisting with job development and placement for Ventura County’s youth and young adult workers.
Sasek plans to partner with others in the community to ensure a local work force that is capable and productive.
Reappointed to the board are Celina L. Zacarias, director of community and government relations for California State University Channel Islands, and John Bibby, interim president of St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital.
The Workforce Investment Board administers federal funds that help to support Job and Career Centers and other adult, youth and employer programs and services in Ventura County.
