Unhappy with candidate’s letter

2010-08-27 / Letters

In referring to Mike Judge’s letter (“Candidate states his case,” Aug. 20), let me quietly rant.

Mr. Judge makes some interesting statements about our city and some election-time promises. He states that Simi Valley has a reputation for being unfriendly to conduct or start up a business. “Why don’t we streamline or gut the bureaucracy?” he says.

He goes on further to suggest we should cut more positions from the city rolls. Really? In this economy, he wishes to place more people on the welfare table?

Let me ask you this, Mr. Judge. As a person of interest for City Council, I will figure you did your homework and decided where these people are. Could you tell us? Because your statement is scaring many employees right now.

And you will do this on your own? Don’t you need two or three council members to agree with you?

And you’re already making friends with the council by stating you will be the type of leader who will make the types of calls the City Council doesn’t seem to have the stomach for. Wow. Way to get them on your side from the get-go.

It seems apparent you are a great follower who hasn’t learned to lead. When the mayor wants something enacted, it doesn’t just happen. He has to negotiate with staff, the city manager and, most definitely, the rest of the council.

You are running for one seat on a five-person council. You are not running to be king.

In closing, may I suggest you look at other letters from citizens in this or other papers. We are very tired of negative, negative, negative.

Tell us how you will make a great city even greater without all this rancor.
