Bob Huber raised an interesting question in his letter published in last week’s Acorn: Why doesn’t the city of Simi Valley screen its job applicants the way private businesses have to do?

I know budgets are tight right now, but, gee whiz, it only takes a few seconds to use E-Verify. Imagine how embarrassing it would be for the city to wind up with one or more illegal workers on its payroll.

I know that other city councils have addressed the issue. Palmdale, Lancaster, Marietta and Rancho Santa Margarita have all done it recently. Why not Simi Valley?

We should thank Bob Huber for bringing up another simple and easy idea to help secure our city. I know he’d make a great mayor.
