ACTIVE ADULT PROGRAMS

The Simi Valley Senior Center offers trips and activities for local seniors.

The center is at 3900 Avenida Simi. For information on any event, call (805) 583-6363.

•“Fun with Photography” will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 5 to Sept. 2, for a fee of $50. Participants can learn how to study light and dark, faces, perspective and composition.

•Basic ballet will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 2 to 30, for a fee of $30.

No experience is necessary. Casual clothes are okay, and ballet slippers are recommended.

•A deluxe motor coach will take seniors to the Ventura County Fair on Tues., Aug. 10. The coach leaves the center at 9:45 a.m. and arrives at the fairgrounds at 10:45.

Admission is free for seniors age 62 and older. Reservations with $20 transportation fee are due by Tues., Aug. 3.

•A trip to Sacramento is planned, the “Capital City Experience.” Spend four nights at Hawthorne Suites Hotel in Sacramento. Cost is $659 per person double occupancy or $839 single.

The cost includes a guided tour of Old Sacramento and the Capitol building, a progressive dinner at five downtown restaurants the first evening, guided tour of the Stanford Mansion, an evening at the Cosmopolitan Cabaret Dinner Theater, a ride aboard the Sacramento River Train with a barbecue lunch, a lunch at the River City Saloon and admission to the California Railroad Museum and the Crocker Art Museum.

A deposit of $200 is needed to reserve a space; the final payment is due by Fri., Aug. 20. Pick up applications at the senior center.

•An Apple Country Jamboree at Los Rios Ranch will be Wed., Sept. 29. Leave the senior center at 9:30 a.m. Lunch includes barbecue chicken and tri-tip, cowboy beans, potato salad, biscuits, pie, beverage, tax and tip.

Riley’s Mountaineers will provide the entertainment. There will be free time to visit the bakery or see a cider press demonstration. Cost is $68.
