Community Council honors difference makers

DEBRA BAGLEY/Special to the Acorn The Simi Valley Community Council, the city’s longest running community organization, celebrated 40 years at its annual President’s Breakfast on June 12 at Lost Canyons Golf Club.

For the occasion, each organization and group that belongs to the council chose one of their volunteers to honor.

Honored this year were Virginia Seaton, AAUW (American Association of University Women); Roberta Leap, Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley; Leah Smith, Simi Valley Friends of the Library; Dorothy Posey, Simi Valley Historical Society; Joan Rogers, Simi Valley Hospital Volunteer Guild; Marie Bennett, Simi Valley Police Foundation; Clell Goldstein, Simi Valley Republican Women; John Patterson, The Samaritan Center; Michael Wronski, Toastmasters International; Janet Tanner, VCBA Simi Valley Court Tours; and Shante Morgan Durisseau, Ventura County Commission of Women.

The council will begin its 2010-11 year at 11:30 a.m. Thurs., Sept. 9 at Lost Canyons. Guest speaker will be Mike Sedell, city manager of Simi Valley.
