Senior standouts: Simi Valley High School
CJ Faulwell, son of Jerry and Marita Faulwell, has spent his high school career balancing academics and sports.
The 18-year-old is a three-year academic letterman and a National Merit Commended Student, who also served as captain of his varsity basketball captain for two years.
The two-year All-Marmonte League selection and San Fernando All-Star was named team MVP his senior year. CJ will play basketball at Occidental College.
Ranked 11 out of 605 seniors academically, CJ was an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honors. He also volunteered at Simi Valley Days and at the Boys & Girls Club.
He said his late father had the biggest influence on him.
“He gave me an example to model my life after and taught me to always give my best in all that I do,” he said.
CJ said he sees himself in 10 years living in California with a career he “thoroughly enjoys.”
Chris Tremonti, son of Ralph and Kristen Tremonti, had a big year, earning the titles Mr. Congeniality and Most Spirited in his graduating class and being voted Prom King 2010.
Chris, 18, is the Associated Student Body’s director of activities and the leadership commissioner of fundraising. He is also a National Youth Leadership State Conference attendee, a yearbook photographer, an Interact Club member and an academic achievement award winner for four years.
Chris is headed to Cal Poly San Luis Obsipo and plans to earn a master’s degree in biological sciences.
He said his entire family has been an inspiration to him.
“Without the commitment, drive and ambition that has been at the heart of my family, I would not be where I am today,” he said. “There is nothing more motivational than watching people succeed and constantly raise the bar.”

Liberty Miller’s first love is running.
The daughter of Joanna Miller, Liberty was a Ventura County champion in cross country in 2007 and 2009, and in track in 2008 and 2010.
Liberty was a Marmonte League Champion in cross country in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and in track in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The 17-year-old was named Scholar Athlete all four years in both cross country and track and earned the title of Ventura County Coaches Association Runner of the Year in 2007, 2009 and 2010.
She plans to attend the University of Washington and join the school’s cross country and track teams.
John Casselberry, Jr.
Liberty’s favorite teacher was Roger Evans, her English honors teacher and coach.
“I have learned so much from him about life, happiness, running skills, dignity, how to be an overall better person,” she said. “I owe a lot of my success to him, and I am forever grateful for everything he has taught me.”
Liberty was also a leadership commissioner from 2007 to 2009. John Casselberry, Jr.
John Casselberry, Jr. will be making a big move for college, traveling to Rome to attend John Cabot University to study international affairs.
The 18-year-old son of John Casselberry, Sr. and Brenda Casselberry earned an academic letter for three years and was a Renaissance Honoree every semester.
He served as freshman class vice president, sophomore class president and a member of the Simi Valley Youth Council. He was Junior State of America president during his sophomore and junior years.
John is the founder and chairman of Simi Valley Young Democrats and was selected as an Organizing for America intern. He was an Eagle Scout at 15 and is a member of the Indian Desei Club, Interact Club and the California Scholarship Federation.
In 10 years, John hopes to be a successful foreign service officer at an embassy in Europe or the Middle East. He also hopes to have a family and might consider a run for political office.
