Raise funds just horsin’ around
A Hoof Up Charity All Breed Horse Show will take place at 8 a.m. Sun., June 13 at Gateway Simi Equestrian Park, 3495 Chicory Leaf Place, Simi Valley.
Youth and adult classes will be taught in jumping, English and western styles. Class fees are low cost, and ribbons will be given in each class. The event will have prizes and day-end Hi-Point awards.
The show is a fundraiser for the California Coastal Horse Rescue. Representatives from Savea Shelter Dog will have pet adoptions and information.
The rescue organization will have a booth. The event will also have arts and crafts booths, horse items, silent auction and raffle.
Spectators are welcome at no charge. Guests can order lunch in advance, and it will be brought in during the break. Unleashed dogs are not allowed in the park.
Local bands to play for a cause
Two local youth bands, Tomorrow Again and Right of Light, will play a free benefit concert for the charity For The Troops from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Fri., June 18 at Rancho Tapo (Lemon) Park Pavilion, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road, Simi Valley.
A donations table will be set up to collect volunteer donations. There will also be a letter writing station for citizens to write supportive letters to overseas military troops. All donations will go directly to For The Troops.

Learn and teach Simi’s history
The Simi Valley Historical Society is seeking new docents and will offer a series of classes to new volunteers for various programs.
Volunteer hours are flexible, and the training classes are free.
Registration is open for training classes scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. June 22, 24, 29 and July 1 at Strathearn Park, 137 Strathearn Place, Simi Valley. Participants must attend all four classes for accreditation.
The classroom education covers the Chumash, Spanish Rancho and American periods of Simi Valley’s history.
Volunteers can participate in various activities, including preservation of artifacts, school programs, docent tours and special events. A junior docent program is available for high school students.

The band Moore Music will headline the annual Senior Prom from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Fri., June 11 at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The dance is open to adults of all ages who enjoy a variety of dance styles, including ballroom and line dancing.
The event will have music, refreshments, opportunity drawings and a door prize. Free photos will be taken of attendees and a King and Queen will be crowned.
Prom attire is encouraged but not required.
The cost is $6 per person. Parking is free. All proceeds will benefit the Council on Aging’s programs for seniors, such as Meals on Wheels, Lifeline and Brown Bag.
