Immigration still a political football

Arizona’s SB 1070 reminds one of a man throwing a net in a river full of fish and expecting to catch only one kind of fish.

We seem to be entangled in years of our own government’s inaction and indecision. We are gripped by fear, continuously screaming assertions instead of presenting evidence of our economic interdependence with the Mexican undocumented worker.

We are forgetting the challenges presented by this compli cated problem.

This may be summer, but already there is a chill wind blowing from Washington and Sacramento.

Once again the illegal alien is but cannon fodder for those seeking political office.

It is an all-consuming fear of a man looking for work, at any price, that makes us forget the values of a free society.

Arizona may just be the first step toward tattooed numbers on the forearms instead of humanitarian solutions to a national problem.
