Young Democrats can win college funds
The Ventura County Democratic Central Committee established the $1,000 Jack O’Connell scholarship in 2007 as a tribute to the state superintendent of public instruction. Applications for 2010 are available at www .venturacountydemocrats.com.
Applicants must be: a resident of Ventura County, registered or registration-in-process for the fall semester at any public college or university in California, a graduate of a Ventura County high school with a grade point average of 3.0 or above, registered as a Democrat or intending to register as a Democrat when eligible, and planning a career in public education or public service.
Applications must be postmarked by July 15.
Interviews with prospective scholarship recipients will be scheduled after Aug. 1.
The winner will be honored at the Labor Day Picnic on Sept. 6 at Freedom Park in Camarillo.
