Rowdy bar-goer Tased by Simi PD

A Moorpark man was Tased last week after allegedly being thrown out of a local bar and challenging an officer to a fight.

According to Simi Police Lt. Joe May, on Wed., May 26 at about 7:50 p.m., the police department received a call of a disturbance at the Elephant Bar & Restaurant in the 1800 block of Madera Road.

Manuel Sabino Ventura, 21, was a patron at the bar but after he was cut off from having any more alcohol he became disruptive and was asked to leave, May said.

Though uncooperative, Ventura was escorted out of the restaurant. When Officer Tom Chapple arrived on scene, he found Ventura walking southbound on Madera Road near Benita Drive.

When Chapple approached Ventura, he once again became combative, May said. Ventura then “took a fighting stance, with his fists clenched” and challenged the officer to a fight. Chapple warned Ventura that he would be Tased but he continued to be combative, so Chapple deployed his Taser.

Ventura was then taken into custody without further incident and was booked on charges of resisting arrest and public intoxication.
