Spring sports at a fever pitch

CIF track and field meet this weekend at Cerritos College

The CIF-Southern Section Track and Field Divisional Finals take place Saturday at Cerritos College in Norwalk.

Pole vault action begins at 10 a.m., and all other field events follow an hour later. Running events are slated to start at 1 p.m.

Standout student-athletes from Divisions 1-4 will vie for CIF glory throughout the afternoon.

Cerritos College is located at 11110 Alondra Blvd. in Norwalk.

The CIF-SS softball and baseball playoffs are in full swing.

Marmonte League champion Simi Valley High and crosstown rival Royal both played Division 1 first-round softball games Thursday afternoon.

Grace Brethren, the secondplace squad from the Frontier League, is in the Division 6 field and also played Thursday.

In addition to the softball action, the Royal baseball team, champions of the Marmonte, opened the Division 1 bracket at home against Corona.

Scores weren’t available at press time. Second-round games take place Tuesday.

The Frontier League champion Grace Brethren baseball squad plays host to Avalon in a Division 6 first-round matchup today at 3:15 p.m. at GBHS.

In boys’ volleyball, the Highlanders made it to the Division 2 quarterfinals before losing to Laguna Beach in three games.

Westlake takes on Laguna Beach in Saturday’s section final at Cypress College. The match is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
