Portfolio Day puts students to the test

TOUGH JUDGE—Hillside Middle School student Daniel Nelissen, 13, talks face-to-face with Simi Valley Unified School District Superintendent Kathryn Scroggin on 8th Grade Portfolio Day on May 14. Portfolio Day is an opportunity for students to highlight examples of their work that demonstrate their best effort in all content areas. Students meet one-on-one with an adult community member in a formal, structured setting with the expectation that they will be able to articulate the significance of the work selected. The role of the community member is to evaluate the student’s work based on organization, quality, presentation and a clear demonstration of mastery of the California State Standards.
