Film to spark discussion on conscientious objectors

San Anselmo-based filmmaker Haydn Reiss will lead a discussion following the showing of his movie “Every War Has Two Losers: A Poet’s Meditation on Peace,” from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Tues., May 25 at the UCC Simi Valley, 370 Royal Ave., Simi Valley.

The film, featuring Alice Waters, Robert Bly and other poets, tells the story of William Stafford, who refused to fight in World War II and served four years in camps for conscientious objectors. Later he won the National Book Award for poetry. The film states that war is not inevitable.

The event is co-sponsored by the Fellowship of Reconciliation–Ventura County.

The screening is free but a goodwill donation of $5 to $10 is suggested to cover copyright costs. The public is invited. Free parking is available.
