The Simi Valley Police Department is asking for the public’s help in catching two people it says are responsible for scamming a 57-yearold woman into believing they had a winning lottery ticket—and then using it to steal her jewelry.
On March 6, a man and a woman contacted the victim, a Simi Valley resident, and told her that because they were illegal immigrants, they could not claim the prize from their winning Lotto ticket, a police report said.
After asking the woman for pieces of jewelry that could be used as collateral in obtaining the funds, the suspects allegedly made off with the items. The victim was not harmed.
In an effort to catch the scam artists, SVPD has released two police sketches.
One suspect is described as an Hispanic female, age 30 to 49, 5 feet 3 inches tall, 100 pounds, with a medium brown complexion and short brown hair. The other suspect is described as an Hispanic male, age 30 to 49, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 140 pounds, with an olive complexion and short black hair. Both suspects spoke Spanish.
Anyone with information on this matter is asked to contact Detective Stephen Collett at (805) 583-6968.
