Flags, flyovers to honor war dead
Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park will present its 20th annual Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Mon., May 31 in the Garden of Valor at the memorial park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village.
The event is presented by the Conejo-Simi Valley Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America in association with Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park, Military Officers Association of the World Wars, DiRaimondo Chapter 750 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Eric Huberth Post No. 11395 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and other patriotic organizations.
Scouts will place hundreds of flags in the park to honor military veterans. Music throughout the ceremony will be provided by the Simi Valley High School Band, United Methodist Church of Westlake Village Choir, Village Voices Chorale and the Valleyaires.
Lt. Col. James McMichael, USAF (ret), will narrate a presentation of “This is America.”
Two flyovers will take place, one a WWII AT-6 and the other a C-17 from the 452nd AMW, March Field.
Additional participants include the Marine Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion; 23rd Marines, Port Hueneme; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eric Huberth Post 11395; Eagle Squadron Color Guard; and the 23rd Marines Color Guard.
