Railroad museum turns 10

The historic Santa Susana Railroad Depot and Museum will commemorate its 10th anniversary with an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., May 22 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., May 23 at 6503 Katherine Road, Simi Valley.

The depot itself is 107 years old. The museum opened it doors to the public in 2000.

The open house will have interactive displays and a state-of-the-art H0 model railroad layout with more than 500 feet of mainline track and digital controls.

Greg Anderson will be speaking on Corriganville movie ranch history at 1 p.m. both days. His photographs of Corriganville will be on display. The open house will also show a 1958 video narrated by Crash Corrigan giving a tour of his movie ranch.

Photographer and author Bill Appleton, a fourth-generation resident of Simi Valley, will sign his latest book, “Images of America: Santa Susana,” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days.

The Santa Susana Model Railroad Club will have a swap meet from 7 to 10 a.m. Sat., May 22 only, at the Santa Susana Park Pavilion just west of the depot.
