Investigation began with vehicle break-in

Three Simi Valley residents— two men and one woman— were arrested recently after a police investigation uncovered a large cache of firearms, methamphetamines and stolen property.

The investigation began last month after a local resident reported several items stolen from his locked vehicle, including a semi-automatic handgun with three loaded, high- capacity magazines.

After Simi Valley Police Department detectives identified a suspect, a parole search was conducted at the home of Bryan Jensen, 25, which led to the recovery of some of the stolen items. Jensen was not at home during the search and the stolen gun was not recovered.

The next day, officers stopped Jensen while he was driving.

He was in possession of a different gun and an ounce of methamphetamine, police said. He was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail on felony charges of possession of a firearm and narcotics violations.

Detectives and the SWAT team then served a search warrant at the home of Anthony Raymond Smith, 28.

Inside, the stolen firearm and one of the magazines were recovered, along with a large quantity of methamphetamines and more stolen property, according to police. A second semi-automatic pistol was allegedly recovered as well as a large amount of cash believed to be the product of drug sales.

Smith was arrested for possession of the stolen property and several narcotics violations.

The investigation culminated on March 9 when a search warrant was served at the home of Robin Annette Ruiz, 48.

Detectives reportedly found more property from the original vehicle burglary. Additionally, a shotgun, several hundred rounds of ammunition and property taken in another Simi Valley car burglary were recovered, a report said.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s bomb squad was brought in due to explosive materials at the scene. The bomb squad deactivated the items and disposed of them.

Ruiz was arrested for possession of stolen property and destructive devices.

In all, four firearms and a significant quantity of methamphetamines were taken off the streets. Several items of stolen property were recovered and will be returned to the victims.
