Therapy riding group to open new ranch

Ride On Therapeutic Horsemanship will celebrate the opening of its new permanent therapeutic horseback riding ranch in Chatsworth with a free grand opening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., March 30 at 10860 Topanga Canyon Blvd.

The event will offer a free pancake breakfast, tours of the new facility and therapeutic riding demonstrations by Ride On’s students and horses.

Ride On will also be enrolling new students. Staff members will be on hand during the day to discuss the program and how to get started.

The new facility adjoins the now city-owned Stoney Point Stables just south of the rock-climbing hills off Topanga Canyon Boulevard.

Ride On has given more than 50,000 lessons and physical therapy treatments. Ride On gave its first lesson in a small, weed-covered arena a few feet away from the new home. Each week Ride On serves more than 170 disabled riders.

Ride On teaches therapeutic horseback riding to children and adults with physical and mental disabilities at locations in Chatsworth and Newbury Park. Therapeutic riding, which combines instruction in traditional horsemanship skills with physical therapy, improves the strength, balance and self-esteem of individuals with disabilities.
