Buying books helps the library

I’m a fan of the Simi Valley Library, so I thank you for covering the celebration of its 30th year of operation at its current location opposite city hall. In addition to the many library benefits mentioned in your article, there’s the Friends of the Library used-book store, where patrons can purchase lightly used books and magazines for 25 cents and 50 cents, as well as fine books that originally sold for perhaps $70 or more, now priced at $3.

This store was developed by the FOTL about 15 years ago and is serviced by some 40 volunteers.

Thanks to the work of these devoted people and to the generosity of people who donate their used books, this store generated over $90,000 last year, all of which went to the library to be used for new books, materials and programs.
