Spiraling debt is the greater fear

Regarding Dennis McKee’s Feb. 26 letter in the Acorn :

I also accept that we have global warming, but what I question is how much of it is humancaused and what can be done about it at reasonable cost.

But if you really want something scary to worry about, I suggest you worry about our spiraling-out-of-control debt and the coming train wrecks it will cause. I believe the ensuing consequences of this will hurt us far more than the effects from global warming.

The Tea Party movement rails not only against Obama’s profligate spending but also that of the mainstream GOP, which is not far behind. We treat the big spenders equally, however, in proportion to their imprudence.

Stating that “95 percent of the American people got a tax cut under Obama” is blatantly false. Preparing my taxes, I see that my marginal federal tax rate is the same 28 percent as last year, while the corresponding rate for California increased from 9.3 to 9.55. Doesn’t look like a tax cut to me.

Yes, our current healthcare system is in need of reform, but it is possible to make a bad system even worse, which Obama’s plan would do.

Medicare for all would just add fuel to the debt fire, which already has liabilities which will have to be paid for by future generations.
