First-time driver has concerns

2010-03-05 / Letters

So I am now old enough to get my driver’s permit, and I am more nervous than ever.

I am not so much worried about learning the rules of the road or passing the test because I have already studied so much, but more about the safety of the roads in Simi Valley.

What concerns me most besides drunk drivers are those who are texting or talking on their cellphones while driving.

I was watching a television show last week about a man who killed his girlfriend who was in the car with him while he was texting. It got me thinking about how many people I see around Simi who are still texting or using their phones while they’re driving.

I mean really, think about how fast you are moving in the car and how quickly conditions can change on the road.

It only takes a few seconds for a life to end and for the lives of those who knew that person to be changed forever. Are you really going to end someone’s forever over a text message?

There are also many good drivers in Simi Valley, and I compliment them because I know I cannot guarantee 100 percent of my own safety or the safety of those around me.

I will always do my best, though, to be a safe driver, and I promise you now that I will never text, talk or check my e-mail while driving, and I hope you can make the same promise back.
