The United States Martial Arts Team invites martial artists to compete in the U.S. Team Southwest Qualifier. The winners of the qualifier will join the team for the World Games at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas on Sept. 17 through 19.

The qualifier event will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat., and Sun., March 6 and 7 at 690 Martial Arts and Fitness, 690 Walnut St., Moorpark.

Saturday will be a camp where the athletes are put through their paces. Those who make the cut on the first day will be asked back to full tryouts on Sunday. At the end of the second day, the Southwest appointees to the team will be announced.

The World Games have many levels. All belt levels and ages have categories, as well as separate categories for the nationality of a particular martial arts style. Some examples of events are forms, traditional breaking, sparring and grappling.
