Curling club looking to capitalize on Olympic buzz
The Iceoplex Curling Group will hold a curling open house at 9 p.m. Sat. March 6 and 20 at the Simi Valley Iceoplex, 131 W. Easy Street, Simi Valley.
Curling is a Winter Olympic event that has been called “shuffleboard on ice.” Teams of four players take turns sending 42-pound granite stones down the ice toward the target at the other end of the playing area.
At the open house, participants age 12 and older will be taught the basics of the game, including delivery of the stone and sweeping.
The cost is $20, which includes ice time, lessons and use of the equipment. The open house will last about two hours. Warm clothing is recommended, as are athletic shoes with good tread for walking on the ice. There is no skating involved.
