K-9 helps officers corral fleeing suspect

A car driving behind closed businesses without its headlights lit at 3:12 a.m. Sunday led police on a chase from Easy Street in Simi Valley to Arroyo Lane in Moorpark.

When an officer attempted to stop the car at 40 W. Easy St., the driver fled. Police followed into Moorpark, when the subject abandoned the car in the 15000 block of Arroyo Lane and attempted to run away.

Officers followed, and the subject, identified as Brandon Burgess, 28, of Simi Valley, fought with police, after which a police dog was brought in to deal with the situation. The vehicle Burgess was driving was later determined to be an unreported stolen vehicle out of Los Angeles.

Burgess, who is on parole for burglary, was taken to Simi Valley Hospital to be treated for a dog bite and bruises.
