Boy, 2, badly injured in wreck
A 2-year-old boy who may not have been properly restrained in his safety seat suffered significant head trauma in a traffic collision on Feb. 8.
Police officers arrived at the site of a two-vehicle collision that had occurred at Sequoia Avenue and Cochran Street. Three people were injured, including the boy, his 28-year-old mother with non-life-threatening head and back injuries, and a 45-year-old woman who complained of pain. All three victims were taken to Simi Valley Hospital.
The women were released, but the child was transferred to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. He had been in the rear of one of the cars.
The cause of the collision is under investigation by the department’s traffic unit. Police are investigating whether the child was properly restrained in his safety seat.
“In situations like this it is hard to determine immediately if the child was at one point properly restrained and . . . got out of the restraint, or if they were never restrained properly,” said Simi police Lt. Joe May. He indicated that the boy should survive but it is unclear what the long-term effects of his injuries will be.
