Library celebrates Reagan’s 99th

Sen. Elizabeth Dole to speak at tomorrow’s birthday bash

The Reagan Library will host a special celebration in honor of the former president’s 99th birthday at 11 a.m. Sat., Feb. 6 at the Reagan memorial site on the library grounds, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley.

Col. Nicholas Marano, commanding officer at U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, will conduct the ceremony. The Camp Pendleton band will perform a musical prelude at 10:30 a.m.

The ceremony will include a color guard, chaplain, brass quintet, 21-gun salute and the placing of an official White House wreath on Reagan’s grave. 

The keynote speaker will be Sen. Elizabeth Dole, who will reflect on Reagan from her perspective of serving in the White House and in the president’s Cabinet. 

Ronald Reagan Foundation board of trustees chair Frederick J. Ryan Jr. will make a special announcement regarding the new Reagan Library Museum, a centerpiece of the upcoming Reagan centennial birthday celebration and other centennial events.

After the ceremony, birthday cake will be served in the library’s main lobby all day while supplies last.

All birthday-related events will be free. Regular museum admission applies to visit the exhibits. All active military with current identification will be admitted to the museum for free.
