‘Mr. Parks and Rec’ made city a better place for families
I would like to thank the Simi Valley Acorn and staff writer Carissa Marsh for the sincere article regarding James Meredith’s (“Mr. Parks and Rec”) retirement from the park board.
I am the youngest granddaughter of the man whose name is imprinted throughout Simi Valley, and I will speak on his behalf in thanking the Simi Valley community, friends and family for all the love and support through this dire moment in our lives.
My grandfather’s profession as a board member for the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District has been his pride and joy for 27 years, and he has made it a prime intention to make Simi Valley more desirable for families and children.
Along his journey as a board member he has touched the lives of many people, and my family enjoys joking that “Grandpa is the prominent celebrity of Simi Valley.”
Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Meredith’s most treasured is the Veterans Memorial of Tapo Canyon Park.
His love for his community has influenced me and many others, so I will ask fellow Simi Valley residents and visitors to please respect the sensational work of my grandfather and the many board members who make our beautiful parks and afterschool programs possible.
I would also like to wish luck to who will fulfill the now-open position and thank the wonderful community of Simi Valley, in which my grandfather holds much pride.
Thank you.
