Church youth to collect food for Souper Bowl

2010-02-05 / Family

The youth from St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Simi Valley will be participating in the nationwide fundraiser Souper Bowl Sunday.

The youth collected cash donations for the Samaritan Center during the church’s Annual Meeting brunch on Jan. 31 and will gather nonperishable food on Sun., Feb. 7 at both worship services at 8 and 10:15 a.m. The charity will receive 100 percent of the donations.

In addition, the youth will be participating in the Service Blitz tomorrow, Feb. 6 by supporting local charities.

Souper Bowl of Caring began in 1990 after Brad Smith, a South Carolina pastor, inspired youth group members to collect money for local hunger-relief charities. It is a national youth-led movement of schools, congregations, community organizations and individuals changing the biggest weekend of football into its largest weekend of giving and serving.
