‘Andrews Brothers’ prove the show must go on

Cabrillo Music Theatre will present a new 1940s musical, “The Andrews Brothers” by Roger Bean, from Feb. 5 to 14 at the Kavli Theatre, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.

Performances are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. A postshow discussion with cast, staff and audience will follow the 2 p.m. Feb. 6 performance.

Musical direction is by Lloyd Cooper, with choreography by Roger Castellano. The production is directed by Nick DeGruccio. The honorary producer is The Harry Selvin Big Band.

On a South Pacific island in 1945, a U.S.O. show is threatened with cancellation when a certain famous trio of singing sisters fails to show up. It’s up to three determined brothers—played by Stan Chandler, David Engel and Larry Raben—to go on with the show.

The production presents more than 25 songs made famous by the Andrews Sisters, including “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Slow Boat to China,” Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” and “Accent-u-ate the Positive.”

The songs are framed within a book by Bean, creator of offBroadway and Los Angeles show “The Marvelous Wonderettes.”

Tickets can be purchased at the Civic Arts Plaza box office, through any Ticketmaster location, or by phone at (800) 745-3000.
