College hosting peace tour to bring together American, Iraqi students
Moorpark College will present a Year of Service community awareness and fundraising event for the Iraq Peace and Reconciliation College Tour from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mon., Feb. 1 in the Forum in the Applied Arts Building, 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark. Free parking will be available in Lot F.
The college tour is a peace mission to connect the next generation of leaders of America and Iraq. The joint American-Iraqi peace mission will launch in March.
Attendees can hear a presentation on the cross-cultural student leadership project and how they can get involved.
The awareness event is sponsored by Global Access Media, a nonprofit media company. A screening of the documentary “The Road to Fallujah,” a film designed to encourage an informed and compassionate dialogue, will be screened. A live videoconference between American and Iraqi students will follow the movie.
Journalist Mark Manning, cofounder of Global Access Media and director of “The Road to Fallujah,” will also make a presentation. Manning says he was the only western civilian to live with the people of Fallujah, Iraq, immediately following the 2004 battle that destroyed their city.
Manning will present an audiovisual talk on the events that led to the development of the Iraq Peace and Reconciliation Tour. He will also show film clips from three documentaries filmed during his travels.
Admission to the event is free. Donations can be made at the event to help fund the tour or online at www.globalaccessmedia.org.
