Police put video of attempted carjacking on YouTube
Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who nearly stole a woman’s car with her infant child still inside.
The incident occurred at 10:20 a.m. Sun., Jan. 24 at the 7-Eleven store at 1840 Cochran St., Simi Valley.
The victim, a 19-year-old female from Simi Valley, had parked her SUV in front of the store and went inside, leaving her 10-month-old child in the back seat with the keys still in the ignition.
When she noticed someone getting into her car she went outside and confronted him as he started backing the vehicle from the parking space.
The victim grabbed the vehicle and was dragged a very short distance before the subject left the SUV and ran north toward Vons across the street.
Responding officers contained the area and conducted a search of the store and surrounding area but were unable to locate the carjacker.
The man is described as 45 to 50 years of age, with a dark complexion, salt-and-pepper short hair, 6 feet tall, 240 to 250 pounds.
The entire incident was captured on the store’s exterior security camera.
In hopes of identifying the suspect, the police department uploaded the video to YouTube for the public to see.
To view the video, go to www.youtube.com and search “Simi Valley carjacking suspect.”
