MLB players, alumni of SVHS, return to Pioneer field for game

Major League Baseball pitchers Jered and Jeff Weaver, along with many other notable former Simi Valley High School baseball players, are scheduled to revisit the Pioneers field Sat., Jan. 23 for the first baseball alumni game in 16 years.

Gates for the game will open at 10 a.m. A home run derby will be at 11 a.m., and game time is noon.

The game against the 2010 varsity squad will highlight a full day celebrating the history of the school’s baseball program, which also will feature a home run hitting contest, a raffle to meet the Weavers and throw out the game’s first ball, and an inaugural fundraising casino night and poker tournament after the game at 7 p.m. at Lost Canyons Golf Club, 3301 Lost Canyons Drive, Simi Valley.

Pre-sale tickets for grandstand game seating are $10. Limited seating in some areas along baselines and beyond the outfield will be offered for $2 on game day.

Visitor parking for the game will be in the campus west parking lot, near the tennis courts.

Raffle tickets to meet the Weavers will be available until noon Jan. 19 for $5.

The entry fee for the poker tournament and casino gaming is $50 and includes $1,000 worth of chips, hors d’oeuvres, five event raffle tickets and opportunities to win prizes. Tickets for the casino event must be purchased today, Jan. 15.
